Antes de ser cantora de sucesso, Cyndi foi a vocalista de uma banda chamada Blue Angel. Eles gravaram um disco que não fez muito sucesso e, por isso, a banda acabou em pouco tempo.

O primeiro disco de Cyndi, She's so unusual de 1983, foi o primeiro feito por uma mulher a ter quatro hits entre as cinco mais das paradas.
